Casas del Cielo

Hybrid Bamboo Structure

Casa del Cielo is a reimagining of multifamily housing, designed in response to the challenges of urban density and isolation during COVID-19. The concept embraces biophilic principles, integrating bamboo and timber hybrid construction with fluid, organic forms to create a vertical community where each floor feels like an independent home in the sky.

Rather than stacking repetitive units, the design creates a collection of elevated residences, each with its own expansive terraces, open-air circulation, and panoramic views. The structure fosters a sense of autonomy within a shared framework, redefining communal living by balancing privacy, connection to nature, and spatial generosity.

Materials & Construction

The building integrates a hybrid bamboo-wood and conventional system, where engineered timber forms the core load-bearing structure, while bamboo is used for façades, roof elements, and interiors, enhancing flexibility and environmental performance. Expansive, wave-like balconies serve as passive shading devices, while diagonal bamboo supports and exposed timber framing enable open, airy interiors. Elevated terraces and open-air corridors blur indoor-outdoor boundaries, maximizing natural ventilation and daylight for a treehouse-like experience. Wrapped in water elements and greenery, the base enhances the microclimate, reinforcing a seamless transition between landscape and architecture. Passive cooling, solar shading, and locally sourced bamboo reduce energy demands and carbon footprint. Casa del Cielo redefines vertical living, merging traditional materials with modern construction to create a high-density yet nature-integrated, human-scaled residential model.
